You can also install the Plexamp server as a system service that starts at boot, for a more Chromecast Audio-like experience. Once it's downloaded to a Pi and opened, you can play music through a web interface on any web browser on the same local network, or choose the Pi as an output in the Plexamp app on other devices. Reliably see the Sonos devices there to cast to from the Android version of PlexAmp, and no other noticeable issues with fades or navigation so far.Related: How to Set Up Plex (and Watch Your Movies on Any Device)Įlan Feingold, CTO and Co-Founder at Plex, shared an early build of a Plexamp server for the Raspberry Pi on Tuesday. I agree there can be a small lag in skipping forward and back in the playlist, however this is the only niggle I have with it. Since I made the update I'd be willing to concede that the majority of the issues with this integration were caused by unreliability of routing / NAT on my own network and are not really issues with either Plex or Sonos. I can verify that this made a significant difference to how the Sonos integration works, both via PlexAmp and using the Sonos app. In my case this was resolved by solving routing issues in my network, such that all traffic on port 32400 was correctly and reliably routed to the machine running Plex, and there was no double NAT taking place on the network. Also in the Plex dashboard remote access would appear to be working but then randomly drop as u/ununsinkable says. I had exactly the same scenario as you, non-responsive controls and erratic behaviour. Remote access does indeed need to be functioning correctly for this to work properly. If I try to decrease volume for instance, it'll often drop, jump back up, then drop again.and sometimes jump back up! Speaker volume, song/playlist, and track progress are often glitchy and jump around or just aren't sync'd. Plexamp screen will often freeze or blank while browsing through library and UI for 1 to up to 10ish seconds. And most actions (play, pause, skip, etc) have a noticable and annoying latency. Sometimes songs will take many seconds to start playing (like 10 seconds). I'll have a playlist open, but then it gets replaced in the background by something else (like the song I played last time I connected to the Sonos speakers) Randomly Plexamp's state will jump around. Volume control on phone (Android) doesn't affect speakers. But even though Plexamp shows the rest of the album is "up next," play stops after and won't go to second song, even if I click skip to next song. I play an album and the first song starts. I want Plexamp! So I see Sonos speakers in Plexamp's "Players," select one, and expect to play and enjoy music through it. Sonos app can see my music library, but is very slow to navigate and awkwardly nested within it's Sonos-centric, complicated app. ![]() What I've done: I authorized Sonos to play off my Plex.and Plexamp to play through my Sonos. Not sure if I should start a return on the speakers or tweak a few settings and be surprised by how awesome it all is? I expected a delightful, connected, and intuitive experience for my $2,000+.but this is about as broken and buggy as anything I've seen. Is this how it is or is my configuration messed up? ![]() It kind of works, but is unusably buggy with a terrible UX. I love my Plexamp! It's the best thing to happen to music since Minidiscs! I heard I could play it through Sonos, so I bought a bunch of Sonos speakers. ![]()
